Platelet Rich Fibrin for Aesthetics
PRF is taken from your own blood. Prior to the treatment, vial(s) of blood is drawn. Next, the blood is placed inside a centrifuge designed to separate PRF from other blood components. After spinning, the PRF is harvested from the top of the vial into a syringePRF is prepared by spinning the tubes at a lower speed and isolating the platelets and white blood cells from the red blood cells. This method allows for a higher platelet concentration and maintains the fibrin matrix without any anticoagulants. The fibrin matrix is what holds the platelets together and facilitates their release over 7 to 10 days in the area where the PRF is injected. A slower release equals longer-lasting results that will occur over the following weeks. The first signs that your PRF treatment is doing its magic will be visible in 48 hours.
What Can PRF Do?
Treats tear-troughs; loose skin and dark circles.
The skin underneath your eye is the thinnest skin on your body so it’s only natural for it to be more exposed to fine lines and wrinkles. PRF can treat the effects of under-eye skin aging by filling in hollows and reducing the visibility of our wrinkles. Until now, dermal fillers were the go-to aesthetic treatment for this sensitive area of our face. Dermal fillers rarely can combat dark circles. If you decide to opt for a hybrid of dermal fillers and PRF, you will get the best of both options, creating volume and reducing the presence of dark circles.
Improves skin texture and treats acne scars.
Our skin cells can be exposed to a series of damaging factors such as dehydration, pollution, smoking, inadequate blood flow, and/or an inadequate skincare routine. This will lead to a dull skin tone that adds many years to your skin's appearance. Using the healing powers of growth factors and stem cells, PRF adds moisture to your skin and boosts blood flow to improve the appearance of a dull complexion and refine your overall skin tone. PRF is a very successful in correcting sun damage, the effects of smoking, encouraging the skin to produce more elastin for a younger appearance and smoother skin.
Results can Last Greater than One Year
A big advantage of PRF is that it allows patients to enjoy results for up to one year. This is amazing, considering that the procedure lasts less than one hour. Once treatment is complete, you will be able to see an improved skin quality, texture, volume, and fewer dark circles for many months to come. However, it is useful to remember that every patient is different, and the procedure is personalized accordingly. After all, it uses your own blood and body’s growth factors to stimulate skin rejuvenation and regeneration. Consequently, the results vary from individual to individual and you may return for your next procedure sooner or later than expected.
PRF has Minimal Risks for Side Effects
PRF is safe, with no major side effects that you need to worry about. The treatment uses the platelet rich fibrin from the patient’s blood without adding any additives or anticoagulants to form a clot under the skin. However, unlike synthetic fillers, the procedure uses the patient’s platelets and natural fibrin, minimizing adverse reactions. The only side effects that can occur are mild pain, swelling, soreness, and minor bruising. Instead of waiting for the pain to go away on its own, it can be rapidly ameliorated with topical anesthetic and ice. If you are considering a PRF facial treatment, we recommend discussing this with your GLO Skin Care provider. Even if there aren’t many contraindications associated with the procedure, patients with low platelets or taking anti-clotting medications should avoid PRF.
